- Learn to see combat from an enhanced perspective and realize the common thread throughout all these positions. We learn how to take advantage of the ever-present spinal relationship with our opponent.
- Watch your own psychology change as you discover what’s actually holding you down in these positions and intelligently learn how to fight the exact problem you are being presented with. Soon you will walk into any room knowing nobody can control you.

What Will You Learn?
The psychological impact of this material is unprecedented. Professor Ryan has had the pleasure of working with people from all walks of life including Veterans, people who have suffered from sexual and physical violence, children with self-esteem/bullying issues, Law enforcement, adults with claustrophobia etc etc. His favorite thing is to see someone who was once terrified from being held down and controlled to having them escape with ease. Then to take it even further and completely change the narrative to feel that they actually have the opponent in side control while still being on the bottom underneath them.
This instructional isn’t only for people who have experienced trauma. This is an essential series for all martial artists. In judo we must not allow someone to hold us down or we will lose the match. In wrestling if we are pinned the match is over. In bjj if we are pinned submissions will soon follow. In striking or self defense ensuring nobody can hold us down and control us is essential to getting back up and getting away!
This will be part 1 of a 3 part series and deals with the escape from the spinal relationship perpendicular control. This includes positions like… every variation of side control, armbars, kimura traps, deep half guard, cross ashi garami and more! In all of these positions our spines cross and make a perpendicular angle you will see how each escape is built from the same principles. In the next video series (part 2) we will go over Diagonal control relationships. (Where our spines are controlled diagonally) This is used to control you in positions like north south and mount. Finally Part 3 will be Back escapes where they can move dynamically between both forms of control and how to address this situation. If your long term goal is to be the best attacking player we must first learn the defense and deny everyone the ability to control us. We can always ensure we are the ones on offense with impenetrable defense.
